Edward F. McKernan, FSA, MAAA
Mr. McKernan is a founding member of Capstan Equity Group, LLC and a Principal Consultant with its insurance consulting subsidiary, Global Preferred Solutions, Inc. Throughout his career, Mr. McKernan has been heavily involved in market development, reinsurance, financial reporting, and merger and acquisition activities.
Client activities have included market development, including domestic and off-shore distribution and product development, feasibility analysis concerning entry into various life insurance and annuity markets, strategic planning, product design, pricing analysis and product implementation. Reinsurance engagements have included the development of special purpose reinsurance structures and programs and the design and negotiation on behalf of clients a variety of risk transfer and financial reinsurance agreements. M&A responsibilities have included estimating appraisal values of companies and blocks of business, projecting earnings, assessing capital requirements, identifying and quantifying risks, and the development and execution of due diligence reviews.
Prior to the formation of Capstan Equity Group, Mr. McKernan served as Director, President and CEO of Global Preferred Holdings Inc. and its Bermuda life reinsurance subsidiary, Global Preferred Re Limited. As CEO of Global Preferred Holdings, Mr. McKernan’s responsibilities included all facets of managing a public Delaware holding company and its Bermuda domiciled life reinsurance company. Responsibilities included governance, capital management, financing, business development, financial functions, actuarial functions, investment management and operations.
Mr. McKernan, having also held positions with KPMG Peat Marwick LLP’s actuarial consulting practice, and Tillinghast, an international actuarial consulting firm, brings Global Preferred Solutions and its clients over twenty-five years of practical, broad-based actuarial and life insurance industry management experience.
